This month we meet Amira Khan. The lifestyle and fashion influencer behind @modestmira_ and Founder & Creative Director of @saharbymodestmira. For years, we’ve absolutely adored Amira’s style and content, so we were especially excited for her to visit us in London for this month’s instalment of #DuoWoman
She gave us an insight into her world and a view for the season ahead. To read more and to shop her edit, visit our blog.
Talk us through a typical day in the life of Amira.
Not one day is the same to be honest but that’s what I love! One day I am sat in loungewear and typing away trying to catch up on emails and blog posts or the next day it’s a lot more glam; creating content, attending events, or travelling to another city or country for a few nights. I am always and forever grateful for the endless opportunities that have come my way since starting ModestMira. I try my best to take time out and have a few slow days but either way there is always something to plan for or a moment of running around – always something to look forward to!
Tell us about your style inspiration.
Over the years Pinterest, magazines, films, and music have been my best friend when it comes to style inspiration. But my style mainly centres around one thing which is comfort. If I don’t feel comfortable in an outfit, then I won’t feel my best. I find my style is forever evolving and I love to experiment and try different things. It’s a little difficult to pin down my style to one category, however if I had to, I would love to say overall it’s classic with hints of quirkiness.
Your style is modest and expressive in equal measure, how do you strike the perfect balance?
Layering! Layering has been a foundation to my style and outfits for many years. I always would find when taking inspiration and the item or outfit wasn’t modest enough, I would instantly think of ideas on how to layer and add my own twist. To create something, I was comfortable enough to wear but has my own stamp.
You’re the founder of Sahar, a beautiful small business creating hand-designed and British made silk scarves. Can you talk us through the inspiration behind the brand?
It all stemmed from my love of silk scarves, although I would find it a little tricky to find the pattern or colour, I was after to pair with a look. I am quite an artsy and creative person, and I was already sketching designs and planning colours of how I would like my scarves to look with a certain outfit. That was when I decided it would be so fun to share and offer this option to others. Ultimately, it was to provide women with luxury pieces that could make them feel bold and confident and would last them through time.
How will you be wearing and where will your DuoBoots take you this winter?
I will be wearing them everywhere! They go perfectly with skirts and dresses during the winter period. I can already see myself taking the
Balla black boots with me for countryside walks and the
Dalia for more dressier moments in the city.
What does being a #DuoWoman mean to you?
Being a #DuoWoman to me is about confidence and to be unapologetically you. The inclusivity of all shapes, sizes and styles is so powerful, allowing us to freely express and feel our best in whatever we choose to wear.
